Without limitations: When employees with disabilities become an organizational asset

Today is International Day for the Equal Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

We set out to find out what employers think about integrating people with disabilities into their organization and is there a difference between them and other employees?

The results are unequivocal: even what began as a kind of contribution to the community, has evolved into a situation where all parties benefit

In honor of the day dedicated to integrating people with disabilities, we went out to hear some stories about such integration.

The conclusion is unequivocal: even a combination that began with the goal of doing a good deed, has over time become thoughtful and beneficial for the organization that has not allowed the disability from which the employee suffers to become a barrier to his employment.

Sometimes it requires special preparation, but when the human resources department is focused on the task, it turns out that not only the employee benefits.

We talked to organizations that have opened a door to absorb employees with disabilities, we heard about the processes of absorption, belief, accompaniment and outcome.

In most cases, it turns out, this is a win-win situation for everyone.

That is - not just a "contribution to the community" but a real profit for the employer organization, which usually benefits employees who are exceptionally motivated to prove and succeed.

How to succeed in absorbing employees with disabilities

Ofer Cohen, CEO of the "Everything is Good" group offers us tips: How to succeed in absorbing employees with disabilities successfully in the organization.

Mark the threshold requirements and do not compromise on them:

Do not confuse making adjustments with concessions on essential abilities. this capability sale / organized / technical knowledge / abilities Fiziot- this ability you have to look for every working draft. employees with disabilities do not need to make concessions, but a suitable job qualifications.

check options for making adjustments:

precisely the insistence on the first section should allow you to identify Where can you make adjustments - for example, invest more in overlapping an employee with a particular cognitive difficulty, give up a non-essential job requirement that the candidate will have difficulty performing due to a physical limitation and allow short breaks for an employee with difficulty concentrating over time

allow flexibility in job scope:

This is a match that many of our service recipients are looking for.

Each flexibility can help — six-hour shifts instead of eight, four working days instead of five, and so on.

A person who has not worked for five years due to a personal crisis sometimes needs an initial period in a part-time job.

Be sure to get real feedback

: A phenomenon we occasionally encounter is the employers 'I do not like to tell him'.

Managers who feel uncomfortable commenting to an employee with a disability and consistently avoid it - do not allow him to improve and become an efficient and better employee.
