Stormy discussion in the Finance Committee: "Tax of one billion shekels"

The discussion in the Finance Committee on the tax on sugary drinks has become passionate and heated: MK Yaakov Asher stole the show in a stand-up show, MK Bezalel Smutrich announced that he would raise the tax on non-kosher food if the right returned to power.

Yaakov Asher in the speech "Tax of a billion shekels" (Knesset Channel)

The Finance Committee today discussed the sweet drink tax decided by Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, in a discussion that has become passionate and tumultuous, but also entertaining. MK Yaakov that he wanted to demonstrate to the committee members how it is taxed economic and health in general, choose to do so through his painting as he describes how dramatic it seemed discussion at the Finance Ministry, Lieberman decided on the tax which he defined as health taxes.

Tax on non-kosher food?

MK Bezalel Smotrich not dipping his paw and said that when the return right to power, he would tax the non-kosher food special tax.

In response, MK published Vladimir Sheliak his Facebook account:

"Today the discussion on sugary drinks Order Finance Committee Report" As Smutrich threatened that when they returned to power, they would impose "heavy taxation on non-kosher food."

First, I am happy with this statement, so that the citizens of Israel will know who not to vote for in 4 years. Second thing - who are they threatening? Anyone who prevents Israeli citizens from using public transportation on Shabbat imposes heavy taxes on them. Whoever sends young couples to get married in Prague or other places in the world - imposes even heavier taxation on them, "Beliac wrote, concluding:" So whoever advocates coercion as a way of life, do not threaten. In between, there was also a discussion in which experts in public health appeared, some on behalf of the initiators of the law and others on behalf of the beverage companies, who oppose it.

Despite the presence of the experts, it seemed that the committee's chairman, MK Alex Kushnir, had a hard time getting the debate to stay on the professional-economic side, as it turned into an argument in which almost every MK tried to demonstrate his stand-up skills.
