The new Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck (Greens) has announced an »opening balance« for the beginning of the year on the state of affairs with regard to climate protection and the energy transition.

"I'm not giving away too much when I already say: We are behind," said the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection of the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung".

»We are not where we should be according to the plans for grid expansion and the expansion of renewables.

We have to change that very quickly, but first we have to be honest about where we stand and what that means. "

Traffic light coalition plans to rebuild the industry

When asked about the work of the previous black and red government, Habeck said: “I wouldn't say devastating.

But mistakes were made. ”He did not, however, want to“ wash dirty clothes in retrospect ”.

"The whole matter is really complex: the face of the country will change, the job market will change, social questions will arise."

In their coalition agreement, the traffic light parties SPD, Greens and FDP promise great efforts in terms of climate protection and restructuring of the industry.

The new government plans, among other things, to increase the share of renewable energies in electricity consumption to 80 percent in 2030 - the previous goal was a share of 65 percent.

Last year, according to industry information, renewable energies had a share of around 45 percent.

"If we do it right and trigger a dynamic, we can experience a boom in new technologies, new branches of industry and jobs can be created," said Habeck in an interview.

This transformation should not only be seen as something less, "but also as a new impetus for an economy that has sometimes fallen asleep."

At the same time, he admitted: "Onshore wind turbines, power grids, another form of mobility, the restructuring of industry: there are great opportunities in this, but it also demands something from people."
