The managers of the French electricity network have never had so little visibility on the security of the electricity supply as in this winter of 2021-2022.
Because of the European energy crisis and the many EDF nuclear power plants in forced shutdown, the balance between electricity production and consumption has rarely been as precarious as it was during this cold season.
The first tensions have been observed in recent days, but concerns are focused on January 2022.
The situation is so critical that RTE, in charge of balancing electricity production and demand, is making weekly forecasts.
He thus decided to wait until the last moment, December 30, to unveil his forecasts for January, identified as the most perilous moment of the season.
The Minister for the Ecological Transition, Barbara Pompili, felt obliged to reassure the French.
