E-commerce: soon more safeguards to protect consumers

DECRYPTION - The means implemented to prevent the sale of illegal products on the internet are growing. Each time, the European Union is on the move.


Fairy lights likely to cause electric shocks, dangerous toys, fire alarms that do not sound: the presence of these items on the Wish site has earned it being banned from search engines in France for a month.

The General Directorate for Competition, Consumption and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) had ordered it to withdraw the illicit products sold on its platform.

The lack of reaction from the market place triggered this unprecedented sanction.

But Wish is far from the only one to offer non-compliant, even dangerous products.

Earlier in the year, the DGCCRF had randomly checked some of the most problematic products (costume jewelry, cosmetics, costume lighters, latex toys for babies, string lights, soft toys, etc.) on eight general market places - Amazon, Cdiscount, eBay, AliExpress, Rueducommerce, Priceminister-Rakuten, Wish and Fnac.
