Dear friend: The cost of living has also come down to pet food

With the first waves of the corona, many Israelis adopted pets, which eased the loneliness a bit during the days of closures.

However, the wave of rising prices that has hit Israel these days has not missed the mark on animals either, with food prices rising by almost all manufacturers and importers.

If you have been exposed to even one news release over the past month, you could not miss out on the cost of living, due to the surge in prices that is sweeping almost all the products that make up our shopping cart.

But while reports have featured names of manufacturers like Barn or Snow, alongside names of big importers who dared to publish new price lists, now the blow comes from a less predictable but no less relevant direction for hundreds of thousands of families in Israel for whom the dog or cat is a household name for everything.

Several letters received by "Walla! Money" reveal that most of the popular animal food brands in Israel are about to become more expensive.

How much exactly?

This is a bit difficult to answer, but it is estimated that this is an increase of at least 5% - and in some brands, perhaps even a double-digit increase.

Dougley, Bonzo and almost all imported brands

Bioft represents in Israel about twenty different brands of food for dogs and cats, including names that are familiar to every animal lover such as Bonzo, Le Cat, Inaba, writers, Euro Kitty Magic and many others.

Purina is another large importer, representing, among others, the brands Dogli, Friskis, Proplan and more.

Like many of the expected price increases in consumer and food products for humans, so the price increases of pet food are expected to begin this coming February, starting in another three weeks.

This means, for all dog and cat owners, an increase in the price of almost every brand manufactured in Israel or imported into it.

Some companies are not only manufacturers of dry food, but also of canned food as well as snacks, so even the "choppers" who are capable of causing our dogs a variety of "human" gestures may soon become more expensive.

Shall we move on to feeding the pets leftovers?

The owner of a pet store in Tel Aviv told Walla! Money: "I do not think there will be a decrease in the purchase of food by dog and cat owners, certainly not their abandonment, because once an animal enters your heart you are looking for only the best for it, but this "A relatively well-established neighborhood. I'm part of a chain of stores and in another store someone told me he was afraid that dog and cat owners would start giving them more leftovers from the family food and less special food."
