Volkswagen is planning a cooperation with the world's largest automotive supplier Bosch to equip battery cell factories.
Both companies announced that they would supply integrated battery production systems and support battery cell and system manufacturers with ramp-up and on-site maintenance.
A declaration of intent was signed.
Both partners set up the project house with the aim of preparing to found a company by the end of 2022.
Manager magazin had previously reported on this (here is the original article).
According to the magazine, a joint venture is planned that will not only equip VW's own six battery cell factories, but also other car and battery manufacturers across Europe.
Accordingly, Volkswagen wants to become more independent of Asian suppliers.
For Bosch, the step still means entering the construction of battery cells.
Thanks to the electric car boom, it is a future business in which Bosch has not yet gained a foothold, it said.
Most recently, Volkswagen's sales have suffered primarily from the chip supply crisis.
In 2021, deliveries of the core brand VW passenger cars fell by 8.1 percent, the company announced a few days ago.
