Fundraising campaign?

Inon Magal, behind you

Even far behind you: The mass mobilization campaign for Benjamin Netanyahu, which has so far generated more than NIS 3 million, angered Doron Shabtai, a social worker from Sderot who launched a campaign in protest called "The Poor of Your City."

The modest success does not let go of his hands, though he admits: "Obviously it's not forces"

One hundred and eighty thousand shekels in less than a week, this is the modest amount that managed to raise the "poor city" fundraising campaign, which was set up in protest against Netanyahu's fundraising campaign. Behind the campaign is Doron Shabtai - a 28-year-old social worker from Sderot, who does not let the modest amount discourage him, since he says he exceeds the amounts he thought of when he set out.

The fundraising campaign for the head of the opposition, Benjamin Netanyahu, was unprecedentedly successful and the amount of money raised has already crossed the NIS 3 million mark. But it turns out that not everyone was enthusiastic about the campaign initiated by journalist Yinon Magal and one of them even decided to take action. Doron Shabtai, a social worker from the city of Sderot, decided to launch a "counter-campaign" under the name "Poor City" that aims to donate money to needy families.

Saturn, 28, is a social worker who in recent years has been a youth counselor at risk. He completed his bachelor's degree at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and today is a social worker at a post-traumatic boarding school for at-risk ultra-Orthodox youth.

"No forces against Netanyahu"

Doron, how much money did you manage to raise?

"Around NIS 180,000 in less than a week, of which I have already distributed about NIS 160,000."

Are you disappointed with the amount?

In the campaign for Netanyahu, they crossed the three million shekels

"I'm really not disappointed, this is a crazy response, there is a great desire on the part of the public to donate. In my head I said that I might be able to collect 12,000 shekels Towards NIS 200,000, but it is clear that these are not forces in the face of the recruitment for Netanyahu. "

And where did the money go?

"Almost all the money is distributed to social workers who have approached me to transfer the money to their patients, whether it's a patient who has digestion on the bill and must be closed so she can enter a rehabilitation program, or whether it's a family that needs shopping vouchers to buy food."

Welcome to the welfare system

Why is the state not doing this?

"Welcome to the welfare system. The welfare system knows how to give financial support to certain marriages, but there is no small fund for

social workers

, and if there is then it is in very low neighborhoods. " "Giving answers to sos and social workers find themselves helpless in front of people who need emergency assistance and therefore turn to people like me. I try very hard to obscure details of those who have approached me because many times it leads to reprimand calls and systemic anger towards them."

Bibists and neo-liberals

Were there also negative reactions?

"Yes, a lot - the most boring things. You can look at Twitter. It is divided into several, some people are angry about the timing, as if why now in front of the fundraising campaign for Netanyahu those who thought that bringing a protest against the fundraising campaign "Liberals who claim that it only deepens poverty. By and large it is very marginal. It was clear to me that I would experience the rude reactions."

Did anyone from the fundraising campaign for MK Netanyahu contact you?

"Shai Glick from the B'Tselem organization, who complimented the project, spoke to me. And he donated and wrote about it on social media, I do not know what his role is in the campaign. "Is

this the first time you are holding a fundraising campaign?

"No, this is not the first time, but this is the only project at high volume. I already had a fundraiser for one of the wardens on whom journalist Liran Levy published at the time they were castrated. "The last big money I made was in Operation The Wall Guard and the city of Sderot was emptied. The idea was similar: I opened a Facebook box to help local businesses as well as the needy."

How did you know who needed the money?

"The assumption was that all the businesses in Sderot ate it during the operation. Four containers remained open, so I irradiated there and distributed the food to needy families."
