Great cold and electricity consumption: the "yellow signal" activated in Île-de-France and Normandy

2022-01-25T17:16:05.995Z

RTE activates its electricity consumption warning signal on Tuesday 25 and Wednesday 26 January in Ile-de-France and Normandy. No shot

This is a warning due to the meteorological context.

Due to the drop in temperatures, electricity consumption in the Île-de-France and Normandy regions is on the rise.

Consequence: RTE (Electricity transport network) activates the yellow signal on its site encouraging energy savings, on Tuesday January 25 and Wednesday January 26.

This informative signal is activated when the electricity consumption of a region is higher than its consumption history at the same time.

If no power cut is to be feared, RTE nevertheless invites the inhabitants of the two regions to energy sobriety.

"We can be responsible and adopt eco-gestures to reduce our consumption", specifies the company in a press release.

“At work or at home, each inhabitant of Île-de-France and Normandy can act with simple gestures: for example by lowering the temperature of their home in the event of absence during the day, by shifting the use of household appliances outside periods of high consumption, or even by completely switching off appliances on standby”, recalls the manager of the French electricity network.

A drop in the ocean?

For RTE, these gestures can on the contrary have a real energy impact.

"For example, if all French people turn off a light bulb, a saving in electricity consumption of 600 MW is achieved nationally, or approximately the consumption of a city like Toulouse", indicates the group. .
