When Mattel lost the license for Disney characters, a long dry spell began. Now the US toy manufacturer can hope for new momentum – the share is skyrocketing.

The license for Disney princesses from films like "Frozen" is very lucrative for toy manufacturers - now the US industry giant Mattel has brought it back.

The company announced this on Wednesday.

The first new collection of the popular toy dolls should therefore come onto the market in 2023.

The agreement with Disney includes worldwide license rights for »Cindarella« and »Snow White«, among other things.

The »Barbie« manufacturer lost it to US arch-rival Hasbro in 2016, which led to significant business losses.

Attempts to modernize the "Barbie" collection were also fruitless.

For a number of years there have been dolls with different skin colors and those whose sex cannot be identified immediately.

However, investors are now again pinning high hopes on the Disney deal.

Mattel's shares temporarily rose by around eight percent before the market.

Hasbro initially did not comment on the reassignment of the Disney license.
