The Federal Foreign Office has objected to the fact that the former German diplomat Dieter Haller works as a member of the supervisory board at the Nord Stream 2 company "Gas for Europe". "The former diplomat Mr. Haller has informed the Foreign Office according to § 105 BBG of his intention to take up work as a retired civil servant," it said on Thursday at the request of the Reuters news agency from the Foreign Office. "An internal review revealed that the start of the activity should be prohibited because it would adversely affect official interests."
The online portal t-online had previously reported, citing commercial register documents, that Haller was moving to the supervisory board of the German Nord Stream 2 subsidiary "Gas for Europe".
According to information from "Zeit", he began his work on the supervisory board in December 2021.
The subsidiary "Gas for Europe" in Schwerin was registered for the Baltic Sea gas pipeline on Wednesday.
The foundation was necessary because the transport network operator must be a company under German law.
A certification for the pipeline by the Federal Network Agency is still pending.
It is necessary so that the completed pipeline can go into operation.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz did not rule out last week that sanctions against Nord Stream 2 would also be imposed in the event of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
