Happy Hour with "Turk" employees

Turk faces information security threats, but along the way maintains fitness with yoga, horseback riding and tennis, the rest of the time investing in coffee and of course the work that has made them in just two years a much larger company than some veteran players in the market.

We went out to close for a week with them on Fourth Street - and we returned envious

: Turk is a startup that deals with information security threats that consist of building code-free automation in minutes, assisting security and operations teams.

The company was founded by Ofer Samadri, Leonid Belkind and Eldad Livni, a year after they made hundreds of millions of dollars in exit when they sold Luminate Trust to the global Symantec company.

Location

: In the jungle of unicorns on Fourth Street in Tel Aviv, you can also find promising and young startups like Turk, which has only existed for two years. 55 workers in the country, out of 70 in the world, with the expectation of doubling their number by the end of 2022, occupy a floor in the building.

The design is homely and warm, a beige marble floor, with motifs of blue and gray. Table football stands not far from the reception, and a large table that once was in the conference room. Here and there there are seating areas like in the living room of the center of Tel Aviv, with plaid armchairs, soft sofas, on which are thrown a few pillows and under which a cozy rug is spread out. On two iron plates, hanging magnet pictures of the workers from events and wherever possible there is a plant, one that is watered with real water, and quite a few pairs of bicycles are parked near the entrance.

Each team has its own space with a door, and whoever is looking for a yoga room, will go somewhere else.

When they do yoga there at eight-thirty in the morning, everyone clears the tables and chairs with their own hands, and spreads mattresses on the floor.

There are also "phone booths", small cubicles with a shelf and a high chair, which close with a transparent door, where you can zoom in or work quietly.

Coffee break

: The dining area has several tables of different sizes and uneven design, and the kitchenette has a blue island with transparent containers with granola, a mixture of nuts, cashews, almonds, pecans and walnuts as well as baskets with bananas, apples and avocados, toaster, popcorn and microwave.

Below there are two kind of sealed barrels containing coffee beans, which we will reach immediately.

Above the blue cabinets is a gray marble with the splendor of the local creation: a professional coffee machine is considered.

In Turk, there are no capsules, God forbid, but a grinding machine, into which the roasted coffee beans are poured from the barrels.

The transparent fridge next door has all the types of milk imaginable, including almond milk with and without sugar, goat milk and soy, anything that can upgrade the coffee a little more.

On the shelf under all sorts of cheeses to spread, with and without toppings, salty cheeses, and lots of types of yogurt.

Next to it is a refrigerator that is entirely dedicated to fresh fruits and vegetables, and another refrigerator with pastrami, tuna salad, eggs, chickpeas, olives and pickles.

Somewhere a chef who bounces omelets, so the guys make the salad for themselves.

There are also two tea drawers, and an impressive candy drawer laden with beeswax, bamba, crazy tuna chocolate, chocolate bars and milkshakes, pretzels, ready-made popcorn, lollipops, until midnight and flavored pringles.

CV

: Hagai has always been interested in computers and already in the seventh grade he started working for his aunt's issued high-tech company and in the eighth grade he read financial reports from NASDAQ. In high school he studied physics and mathematics, because when he wanted to approach matriculation in computers in tenth grade, the teacher told him that there was no situation and he had to study the material first, so he gave up.

He did the service in 81 and 8200, while moving between the units, became an officer, signed two years permanently and after a period of trekking abroad, looked for work until he started studying at the university and reached the founders of Turk, which Luminate then owned and asked for a job as a student. They were very impressed with him but said that at the moment they do not have such a position, and he was absorbed in another company and studied for a degree in physics and computer science.

"After three years, when they made an exit," says Hagai, "we reconnected. When I heard their idea for the Turk, I was ready to settle down. We negotiated when the Corona started, and I joined in the first isolation as a developer.

There was apprehension in the industry then but I had confidence in the people.

The biggest companies grew up in crises, because the biggest opportunities arose. "

Lynn grew up in Belarus in the most humane home you can find. Then she dropped the token, which is actually realistic - and she decided to study economics and computer science.

I was there for seven years during which time I moved with my husband to the Czech Republic, worked remotely from there and studied at the Open University.

"When we returned to Israel I was looking for a new job because I wanted to experiment with other technologies and came to Turk. I was in parallel processes at other companies, but after the first conversation with the interviewer and when I found out the founders took with them people from the previous company after the exit, they did it for me. "There was a homely atmosphere, there was a game of table football, people are super nice, and the reception the dog Sun made for me was unforgettable."

As a child, Liron dealt with gadgets, airplanes and electronics, and in high school he studied scientific technology, which included physics, computers and mathematics, and reached 8200. During his service, he studied electronics engineering and completed his final project as part of the unit.

After his release, he began working as an integrator in hardware systems in communications products at Red Bynet.

After five years he moved to Verint in a parallel role, while studying Computer Science in the evening.

"After school I made a sharp move to Sky Cure, a small startup, after fertilizers in large organizations, it was a fun place to develop, which ended up being a rewarding exit. After the sale, part of the nucleus that worked there moved to Turk and I entered as an automation developer. Head of Automation Team. "

For the soul

: Liron plays tennis, devoutly follows every tournament in the world and is a die-hard Federer fan, so much so that he flies to Wimbledon and sleeps a week in an improvised tent in line to buy a ticket from the pool reserved for crazy people like him who are willing to do it.

Hagai is the founder of Turkish coffee culture. "We deepened our love for coffee, formed a community, people bought machines at home and after not simple persuasions, we managed to bring here one of the best barista machines in the world. Once it arrived, everyone switched to drinking only from it and stopped drinking coffee at home because it is not tasty enough."

Lynn started riding horses when she lived in the Czech Republic and today she rides in Savyon, where she moved following her guide. "In the previous company we were taken to an archery range in the Galilee, I fell in love and continued with it in the Czech Republic, and today I shoot in Givatayim. Besides, I participate in live games of 'Dungeons and Dragons' and when possible, I flew to a big game every year in Germany."

Corona

: Despite the instructions to move to work remotely, and despite having well-equipped home offices, people preferred to come to the office in full force, so much so that management had to send some of them back home. Hagai took advantage of the corona and flew with his partner, a medical student who was on forced leave, to Greece, and with the consent of the direct boss worked from there for three weeks.

As a father to children, Liron greatly appreciated the bonus the company gave to people with families. To Lynn, who was accustomed to working remotely, working from home was completely natural.

In the first closure, they did five virtual "T-times" every day, chatted, talked, steamed a little, and every morning a "company" meeting of the whole company opened and to lift the mood, they sent everyone cocktails and board games. Hagai relates that when he fell ill, he received a delicious encouragement to isolate from Deliktsen, because who had the strength to cook.

Value Added

: The company held an internal competition that used the company's technology, and for 12 weeks people created automation for something that would help them in life. Lee wrote a bot to "Walt" who knows how to sample every minute if the restaurant she wants is open, which gave her the advantage of being first in line on busy days, before orders close and won a prize, NIS 500 to be redeemed at restaurants.

There is yoga once a week, each employee was given a smartwatch with the Turk logo, there was also a step competition and the winner was given a day at the spa. On Wednesdays a stop is made, everyone is summoned, whether physically or virtually zoomed in and after a conversation and planning ahead, everyone eats lunch together, whether they are in the office.

Hagai: "It is very important for everyone to share information with each other. Our CTO, one of the most amazing technical people I have met, spends an hour a week on aspects of cyber out of a desire to enrich us."

And there were fun surprises, too, like the day everyone came to "Planning Day 2022" with a sucks schedule, and then found themselves on a bus to the Ella Valley, where they opened tables in the woods, rode ATVs and sang karaoke by the fire.

What to wear

: Free, whatever comes.

Karin, the HR, knocks out Super Style performances, compared to those that come with the company's sweatshirt and hat.

Where to work

: There is no obligation to come, but almost everyone is in the office all the time.

Salary

: "As with any start-up, there is a nice package of options," says Liron, "and overall the reward is very nice, I am satisfied."

Lynn also has no complaints.

"There were places I was interviewed for, who argued with me about lowering wages, in Turkey it did not happen. There is also a generous program of a friend bringing a friend, $ 3,000 bonus."

What's next

: Hagai says the feeling is that each employee is as influential as five employees elsewhere and in general, the future here seems rosy to him.

Liron also feels that they are on the wave in terms of momentum and business, and Lynn is satisfied with her personal and professional development and she currently sees only goals in front of her eyes.
