The testers from the magazine "Öko-Test" took a close look at the smoothies that are considered healthy. The result is sobering: pesticides, little vitamin C, but excess harmful sugar.

Popular smoothies are often touted as replacing "one serving of fruit or veg a day," but not all fruit drinks are as healthy as they look.

Some are sugar bombs, shows a study by the magazine "Öko-Test".

Smoothies often contain a lot of fruit.

However, according to the testers, some fruit drinks on the market have little vitamin C but a lot of sugar.

Some even had pesticides in them.

A total of 20 red smoothies were tested - they were priced between 66 cents and 2.39 euros per 250 milliliters.

In terms of taste, they all received a "very good" rating.

In the overall assessment, however, only two received this grade: the cassis, blackberry and apple smoothie from "Rewe to go" and the apple, elderberry, chokeberry and raspberry smoothie from "dm Bio".

When looking at the ingredients, three products were even given the grade "poor", four received the grade "sufficient", five the grade "satisfactory".

According to the “Öko-Test”, only eight products were recommended – i.e. they received a good or very good rating.

According to the experts, those who want to avoid sugar should avoid smoothies with banana pulp, grape and apple juice.

It is often healthier and richer in vitamins to mix the drinks with fresh fruit yourself.
