McDonald's announced a rationing of fries in Malaysia due to supply chain problems, while the group faces shortages in several other Asian countries.

"

We are facing a significant shortage

," McDonald's Malaysia announced in a social media post from the Southeast Asian country this week.

The franchises had to withdraw the large portions of fries from sale because of "

supply problems

", detailed the group in a press release to AFP.

McDonald's has promised to "

monitor the supply situation very closely

" to put large portions back on sale as soon as possible.

Japanese fries portion reduction

Supply chain issues affect many sectors of the global economy, ranging from electronics to food.

In Taiwan, McDonald's temporarily suspended the sale of "hash browns" in January because of an insufficient supply of these hash browns imported from the United States.
