Imported and locally produced potato seeds exceeding 3000 tons to secure the needs of farmers

The Seed Multiplication Corporation contracted to import 2090 tons of potato seeds and produced 1049 tons of local seeds to secure the farmers' need of potato seeds for the spring season.

The Director General of the Foundation, Engineer Wael Al-Taweel, explained to SANA that the imported seeds of the rank (Elite), which is one of the varieties subscribed to by the farmers, has so far reached 934.1 tons, through which the priority of the early agricultural need was secured in the governorates of Lattakia, Tartous and Homs, indicating that 357 were distributed tons in Tartous branch, 73 tons in Lattakia, 130 tons in Homs, 43 tons in Aleppo, 104 tons in Damascus and about 228 tons in Daraa, in order to meet the needs of farmers who want to start farming.

He pointed out that the rest of the quantity is expected to arrive within the next few days, when shipments will begin immediately to the Foundation's branches in Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Azra', Damascus and Sweida to complete its needs.

Al-Taweel explained that the Corporation secured 1,049 tons of potato seeds, which were produced locally through the national project for the production of potato seeds, and the quantities sold to date amounted to 1016 tons within all branches of the Corporation, pointing out that the Corporation sells both imported and local seed potatoes to farmers at discounted and encouraging prices.
