Will the struggle for the cost of living unite Netanyahu's supporters and his opponents?

What do the former finance minister and the current chairman of the economics committee have in common? MKs from Shas and Mish Atid? MKs Emily Moati and Dudi Amsalem?

Today will be launched in the Knesset lobby for the fight against the cost of living, in which Knesset members from the coalition and the opposition are members.

But while these are uniting, in the protest groups a struggle has erupted between right and left

Will the question that drives the political system in Israel, yes or no, Netanyahu, give way to cooperation between Knesset members from the coalition and the opposition, precisely against an background of - sorry for the word - ideological?

A solemn invitation sent to civic and social organizations by MKs Uriel Bosso (Shas) and Michael Bitton (blue and white) states that today will be launched in the Knesset lobby to fight the cost of living.

The first issue that the lobby will discuss is the difficulties and coping of Israeli citizens with the wave of rising prices in many industries in the Israeli economy.

But with all due respect to the struggle for the cost of living, what is interesting here is that these are two MKs who are in opposing blocs, Bosso from the opposition and Bitton from the coalition, they signed the invitation. And that's not all: Working alongside former Finance Minister Israel Katz and former ministers David Amsalem and Amir Ohana, all three from the Likud.

Is this the loosening of the fence that has so far separated the "bloc of change" from the famous "block"?

time will tell.

We will note that these things do not happen much after joint socio-economic initiatives for MK Shlomo Krei from the opposition and Michael Bitton, who is also the chairman of the coalition's economics committee.

There are still many on the ground

However, it seems that the idyll between the two rival camps in the Knesset has failed to catch up with some of the social activists invited to the launch today.

In one of the WhatsApp groups of activists in the yellow vest protest that has been trying to rise in recent weeks (with very partial success, at least for now) there has been a heated debate between activists who identify themselves as chemists versus activists who identify themselves as left-wing.

The virtual quarrel included boycotts of events organized by some of the members, angry posts, threats of removal from the WhatsApp group and more.

Have we reached a day when elected officials will be those who will be a signal and a sign of social cooperation without clear political identification?

It's too early to know.

In any case, the presence of senior members of the opposition at the conference, which is also attended by coalition representatives, indicates a new stage in parliamentary activity in the current Knesset: they may not agree on Netanyahu's trial, but see eye to eye with Osem, Snow and Unilever ...
