"Participating in a meeting with senior representatives of the Histadrut in these circumstances can be for one purpose only, and it is intended to make a move of transferring employees to the Histadrut and harming the Histadrut representatives."

In these words, the Disciplinary Committee of the Histadrut decided to stay away and not allow a number of workers in the Port of Haifa to run in the elections to the Port Workers' Committee.

Last night, the dismissed workers - Moshe Alkobi, who served as chairman of the committee, Nikolai Sher, Yitzhak Bauberg, Amir Shimko and Ronen Maman - submitted an urgent request to the Tel Aviv Regional Labor Court through Adv. Eran Golan, so that the court could allow them to run The port.

In the background of the Histadrut's decision, the crisis in the seaports and the refusal of the Histadrut to allow private operators to operate some of the docks in the seaports must be taken into account.

Seaports are of crucial importance in the supply chain, as the delay of cargo ships in ports is very costly and has an indirect but clear impact on the supply of raw materials to industry and import costs.

This is also the reason why the state has sought to extend the unloading of goods to private ports as well.

A step that in the not-too-distant past has been interpreted by employee representatives as a temporary solution that is meant to become permanent.

About a month ago, the Histadrut wanted to shut down the seaports in Haifa and Ashdod, in protest of the state's intention to allow the unloading of goods that are not also contained in the private ports - the Gulf port and the southern port. Achieved with the state and actually enabled the establishment of the private ports.

The Labor Court prevented the strike but the long queues for unloading goods at ports remained intact.

In addition to this, the current confrontation between the Histadrut and some of the former committee members.

While the committee members are unhappy that they claim parts of the collective agreement were not honored in the Histadrut they decided not to allow them to run in the port committee at the end of the month due to accusation that they dared to sit with Histadrut chairman Yoav Simchi and Histadrut legal adviser Ran Confino.

The Histadrut's main argument is that in the meeting with the members of the competing workers 'organization, the workers of the Port of Haifa tried to challenge the Histadrut's place as the workers' representative organization.

On the other hand, the workers through Adv. Eran Golan claim that a meeting with members of another workers' committee is not prohibited under the Histadrut constitution and that the workers did not call the other workers to join the Histadrut. On Facebook, however, these publications sent words of praise to the employees who chose to join the Histadrut.
