It is the largest biomethane production unit in France and one of the largest in Europe.
Veolia and the start-up Waga Energy will produce 120 GWh of renewable gas each year at the Veolia site in Claye-Souilly (Seine-et-Marne).
This represents the average consumption of 20,000 households.
In Claye-Souilly, Veolia has a large waste sorting, processing, composting and storage center.
This is where he installed the biomethane production unit.
Stored organic waste generates biogas, captured by Veolia then sent to a Wagabox, a production unit developed and managed by Waga Energy to produce biomethane.
It represents 10 million euros of investment.
The two companies already jointly operate a production unit in Saint-Palais (Cher).
Two others, in the Manche and in the Drôme, will be operational this year.
