Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger did not rule out that his country would have to buy natural gas from Russia in rubles, after President Vladimir Putin issued a decree in this regard.
Today, local media quoted Heger as saying: “If we convert the Russian demand that European consumers pay for gas in rubles to Slovak terms, then our gas industry will have to first buy rubles in euros and then buy gas in rubles from Gazprom,” adding: “This
The move will increase Slovakia's dependence on Russia, and the matter will not only be in energy, but will also be financial."
Putin recently signed a decree on the mechanism for paying for natural gas supplied to "unfriendly countries", including the European Union, in Russian rubles.
