At last!
Brussels will launch a procedure against Hungary to suspend its access to European funds.
The decision, announced by the President of the European Commission on Tuesday in the European Parliament, was greeted with a round of applause from MEPs who denounced the slowness to act and threatened to take the institution to European justice.

Hungary has long been on Brussels' radars.
A first procedure (drawn from Article 7 of the EU Treaty) for violations of European values was opened in 2018, without any real effect.
A new mechanism was therefore decided in July 2019, despite resistance from Budapest and Warsaw (also in the crosshairs of Brussels).
It gives the Commission the power to suspend the payment of EU funds to countries responsible for breaches of the rule of law.
Could be concerned more than 40 billion euros.
