At a press conference held before the cabinet meeting, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked and Deputy Minister Avir Kara announced regulatory easing for the economy as part of an amendment to the Business Licensing Order.

The amendment offers a series of regulatory reliefs in relation to 56 items, which according to the initiators of the reform will affect about 44,052 business owners, who constitute one third of the businesses licensed in Israel.

Shaked and Kara announced savings of about NIS 400 million and 3 million business days, as a result of the shortening of bureaucratic procedures and the abolition of the obligation to issue certain permits on the part of business owners.

For example, the dentists announced a reduction in licensing requirements for businesses engaged in imports.

And the removal of some of the restrictions that separated small food producers from obtaining a business license.

More facilitations: reduction of police requirements for restaurants and cafes, extension of licenses for pools, hotels, discos, butchers and many other businesses.

Shaked and Kara stressed that the amendment does not require legislation in the Knesset or approval in one of its committees, a remark that has significance in an era when the coalition will have difficulty, perhaps, in passing laws in the Knesset.

In this context, it should be noted that the amendment to the order has been published for public comment and after receiving the comments and referring to them, Minister Shaked is expected to sign the order and the relief will take effect immediately.

The proposal to amend the Business Licensing track was formulated after staff work, which included presenting it to the plenum of the Inter-Ministerial Business Licensing Committee - which includes representatives of approvers and local government representatives, and which has the authority

to recommend changes to legislation - and individual meetings with representatives of various approvers.

With all due respect to the welcome amendment, as many business owners have, due to excessive regulatory requirements and even conflicting elites, become reluctant criminals, it seems difficult to detach it from the media status in which the housing and justice ministers launched the discounted apartment lottery or kosher cellular reform published today.

As vital as the steps above are, it is hard to shake off the feeling that the upcoming election campaign has already begun.
