The Prime Minister of the German state of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, has strongly criticized the decision to ban oil supplies from Russia, stressing that it will lead to a shortage of energy resources, a halt in production and job losses.
"I think it's time to take a closer look... Who is hurting? In fact, there is global demand for coal, oil and gas... If European countries buy energy resources other than Russia, there will be a shortage of these materials," Kretschmer said in a statement carried by the German news agency (DPA). Russia will compensate for it, too.”
"Energy is the basis of any economy and oil and gas prices are very high so far... If there is a shortage of energy resources, the point is not only that homes will not stay warm in the winter, but we are talking about the fact that we will stop production and lose jobs," Kretschmer added, stressing that economic relations with Russia is still important for Europe in general and Germany in particular.
