This contract concerns spare parts as well as material and labor support for its fleet of 482 Lakota helicopters.

Airbus announced on Monday that it has been awarded a contract for the maintenance of helicopters used by the American armed forces, worth more than 1.5 billion dollars if its optional component is confirmed.

This contract with the US Army (Army), for an initial period of six months, concerns spare parts as well as material and labor support for its fleet of 482 Lakota helicopters, type UH- 72A and B, said the European aircraft manufacturer in a press release.

The contract includes an option for an additional four years and six months, and will see Airbus provide services at 67 Lakota-hosting sites in the United States and overseas, according to the same source.

The Lakota, light helicopters, are intended for pilot training but also for internal security missions, and are produced in Columbus (Mississippi, South) in a factory created by Airbus in 2003.
