On the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity and under the slogan “Building a common future for all forms of life”, the Arab Center for Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACADS) organized a scientific symposium on the role of the organization in empowering Arab women and preserving biodiversity, in the presence of 200 researchers from representatives of ministries, organizations, bodies, experts and interested people in countries The Arab League in the field of biodiversity, in addition to a number of Arab and international universities and organizations.
The seminar, which was held today at the organization’s headquarters in Damascus and via video technology, aims to shed light on the importance of women’s participation in the implementation of the activities of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and their participation in global trends in the conservation of natural resources and the maintenance of ecosystems, which will reflect positively on the human societies whose pillars are women as partners. The man in agricultural activities.
The Director-General of ACSAD, Dr. Nasr El-Din El-Obeid, confirmed that the center has implemented dozens of development projects to preserve, develop and benefit from biodiversity, and more than 17 projects to improve vegetation cover and preserve biodiversity throughout the Arab world, with an area of 42 million hectares, in addition to projects in livestock.
Al-Obaid said that ACSAD, in cooperation with the Canadian International Development Research Center IDRC, established the Arab Dry Areas Plants Data Bank ADAB, which includes 3110 plant species and is currently being updated, pointing to the importance of building bridges of cooperation and coordination with the concerned national institutions in Arab countries and with Arab, regional and international organizations.
