Taxes 2022: last day for the tax return of certain taxpayers

2022-05-30T10:26:42.867Z

If you are a tax resident of departments 20 to 54 or if you are filling out a paper form, you have until Tuesday, May 31 at midnight

This Wednesday, it will be too late.

If you are a taxpayer from departments 20 (Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud) to 54 (Meurthe-et-Moselle), you have until Tuesday, May 31 at midnight to complete and sign your tax return online .

For those who are eligible for automatic declaration – there are 11 million in all at the national level – it is just necessary to verify the information, the validation being… automatic at the deadline.

The deadline is also valid for paper declarants, those who do not have access to the Internet or who do not feel able to carry out their procedure online.

While the deadline was initially set for May 19 at midnight, they benefited from an extension of ten days.

In question, problems in sending pre-filled forms.

Even if this only concerned “a little less than 5% of the users receiving these declarations”, the Directorate General of Public Finances (DGFiP) had decided to give additional time to all paper declarants.

Beware of surcharges in case of delay

Whatever your situation, it is better not to play with fire and fulfill your obligations on time.

Because if you procrastinate, the penalties are far from trivial.

After midnight on Tuesday, your tax will be increased by 10%.

But only if you fulfill your obligations in the absence of formal notice.

If you receive one and file your declaration within 30 days, the additional cost will be 20%.

And the invoice will be inflated by 40% if you still have not complied within this period.

In the event of hidden activity discovered by the tax authorities, the increase will even be 80%.

To this is added interest of 0.20% of the tax due per month of delay, ie a rate of 2.4% per year.

This is also what awaits you if you live in departments 1 (Ain) to 19 (Corrèze) or abroad and you have still not complied with this ritual.

You only had until May 24 to do so.

The best off are, as every year since 2010, taxpayers residing in departments 55 (Meuse) to 976 (Mayotte) who have until June 8.
