Since 2005, the share of renewables in the total energy consumed has thus gained 10 points, at a relatively constant rate excluding the health crisis, notes the report.
This development was driven by wind power, heat pumps and biofuels, while at the same time gross final energy consumption decreased overall (at a rate of approximately 0.5% per year).

Over two years, between 2019 (pre-pandemic) and 2021, the share of renewable energy grew by 2 points, with the economic recovery last year stimulating relatively new demand from sectors such as transport, industry and the tertiary sector .
Today, solid biomass (wood) remains the leading renewable energy with 7.1% of final energy consumption, followed by hydraulics (3.4%) and heat pumps (2.4%), underlines the balance sheet.
Wind power provides 2.2% of the total, biofuels 2.1%.
However, France will have to reach 33% in 2030 to meet the objectives of the climate energy law.
In 2020 the country, at 19%, was the only one in the EU not to comply with its 23% target, resulting from a European directive and transmitted to the Commission since 2010. At European level, the
