The world-famous Toblerone chocolate loses the Swiss predicate on its packaging.
The US confectionery group Mondelez also wants to produce the characteristic triangular chocolate bar in Slovakia from the end of next year, said a spokeswoman for the US group on Thursday, confirming a report by the Swiss broadcaster SRF.
According to the strict regulations of the Confederation, chocolate from abroad may not be described as "Swiss".
"We will be relaunching the Toblerone packaging starting this summer and saying the brand was 'founded in Switzerland,'" the Mondelez spokeswoman said.
Apparently in a future work with Milka and Suchard
As the SRF report states, Toblerone has been produced exclusively in Bern for more than 100 years.
The company management informed the workforce at the beginning of the week about a partial relocation of production.
However, the plant in Bern should be preserved.
In the Mondelez production facility in Bratislava, Slovakia, well-known brands such as Milka and Suchard are already being produced.
The bear hidden in the chocolate coat of arms should be preserved despite the partial relocation of production, reports SRF.
The animal is a reference to the previous production site in Bern.
