The Water Information Center offers a barometer every year, which has been published for twenty-five years.
This “draws an extremely precise vision of public opinion and makes it a compass to guide information to consumers”, presents Marillys Macé, its managing director.
Here are the main lines that stand out from the survey carried out in 2021 at the level of Île-de-France.
Sanitary quality but a pronounced taste
89% of Ile-de-France residents are satisfied
with the service, which is 2 points more than at national level.
84% trust
tap water.
72% find the water too hard
(69% in France).
61% blame it for its
chlorine taste and smell (57% in France).
A high price but accepted
55% consider the water service to be “rather expensive”
(56% in France), but find it legitimate to pay more than 70% for the various services.
82% believe that pollution affects the price
of water service.
78% expect the price to increase
, because there will be a shortage of water (52%), because everything is going up (46%) and because the treatments will cost more (46%).
Bottled water resists
Out of 10 glasses of water drunk,
6 come from the tap and 4 from bottles.
53% of Ile-de-France residents say they drink still bottled water
every day.
This is 3 points more than in 2020 and it is also more than the French average (48%).

but 69% recognize that they contribute to water pollution.
92% have already taken a shower rather than a bath
, 89% pay attention to leaks and 57% regularly check the index of their water meter.
This is 13 points more than at the national level!
Conversely, only 54% of Ile-de-France residents protect their installation from freezing (67% in France) and 46% install pressure reducers (49% in France).
