Rail customers who want to forgo their journey in view of the predicted summer heat can also use their tickets later.
Deutsche Bahn offers a special arrangement for this, as the company announced on Monday.
All passengers who wanted to travel on Tuesday or Wednesday can flexibly use their already booked long-distance ticket up to and including next Wednesday, July 27th.
This rule also applies to train-related tickets, i.e. saver and super saver prices.
According to Deutsche Bahn, seat reservations can also be canceled free of charge.
Meteorologists expect temperatures of up to 40 degrees this week.
According to the German Weather Service, the peak of the extreme heat in the west and south-west is Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the heat will shift to the east and northeast.
High temperatures can push rail traffic to its limits: air conditioning systems, points and locomotives sometimes break down.
According to the railway union EVG, 88 trains were completely canceled and 111 were partially canceled during a heat wave three years ago.
