Brussels, SANA- President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen has warned of a worsening energy crisis within the borders of the Union

Brussels-Sana

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has warned of a worsening energy crisis within the borders of the European Union.

"Given that Russia has already completely or partially cut off gas supplies to 12 EU member states, we need to prepare for the worst," von der Leyen told the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Von der Leyen noted that the European gas emergency plan for the next eight months aims to help meet winter needs.

Gazprom announced last week the suspension of gas supplies to Latvia, after it was cut off earlier by Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Poland and Bulgaria for refusing to pay in rubles, and Russia has reduced gas shipments to Germany.

Russia asserts that Western sanctions are the cause of the technical problems of gas facilities and that Europe suffers from the repercussions of these sanctions imposed on Russia.
