US natural gas futures closed 5% lower today, on news of another delay in resuming initial operations at the Freeport LNG export terminal in Texas.
Reuters reported that gas contracts for September delivery ended the trading session on the NYMEX as low as 48.7, to record at settlement $9.193 per million British thermal units.
International gas prices are still strong, with contracts amounting to $77 per million thermal units in Europe and $56 in Asia.
Earlier today, US gas prices jumped above ten dollars for the first time in about 14 years due to a jump in prices in Europe, where supplies continue to be tight.
