The Olive Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform estimated the production of the olive crop for the 2022 season at about 820,000 tons, an increase of nearly 260 thousand tons over the last season, when production reached 560,317 tons.
Director of the office, Eng. Abeer Jawhar, said that preliminary estimates showed a decline in production mainly in the governorate of Aleppo, compared to a noticeable increase in the governorates of Lattakia and Tartous by about 366,000 tons, equivalent to 40% of the total production, noting that the estimate of olive production in the unsafe areas in the governorates of Aleppo, Idlib and Hama Al-Raqqa, Al-Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor amount to about 238,628 tons, which constitutes about 26 percent of the total production.
Johar indicated that about 697,000 tons of production are allocated for pressing, and it is expected that about 125,000 tons of oil will be produced, while about 123,000 tons will go as table olives.
Jawhar indicated that the general condition of the olive trees is good with the appearance of signs of drought on the fruits as a result of high temperatures, which requires supplementary irrigation for the trees during this period, pointing out that the traps for monitoring the activity of the olive fruit fly did not record any readings that required chemical control significantly, and most of them were Infections are below the economic threshold to date, as coordination has been coordinated with the prevention departments in the agricultural directorates and emphasis on follow-up readings of traps during the coming period to anticipate the occurrence of activity of the olive fruit fly in coastal areas in the event of rain and the provision of appropriate conditions for its activity in terms of heat and humidity.
