The Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade and the Arab Federation of Productive Families and Handicrafts and Traditional Industries signed today a memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation between them and achieving their goals in contributing to the process of economic and social development according to the scope of their work.

According to the memorandum signed by the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, and the President of the Federation, Muhammad Abdul Basit Qadah, work is being done to develop the reality of productive families in Syria, enhance their contribution to economic growth, and diversify sources of income for productive families to improve their standard of living.

The memorandum also aims to enhance the capabilities of small producers in marketing, selling and exporting, thus contributing to their economic and social empowerment, achieving integration between projects and various economic activities, improving the quality and competitiveness of these families' production and facilitating its access to foreign markets.

The memorandum includes the implementation of training programs through the bodies affiliated with the Ministry to develop the technical and craft skills of productive families and reduce their burden of obtaining the necessary funding to launch and develop their projects by taking advantage of the interest rate support program signed between the Ministry of Economy and banks operating in Syria, in addition to encouraging and facilitating the participation of productive families in festivals and bazaars. and local and foreign specialized exhibitions.

The five-year memorandum stipulates the formation of a joint committee comprising three members representing each party, whose tasks are to prepare, organize and follow up the necessary procedures to implement the areas of cooperation mentioned therein, and to identify joint programs and projects. The committee holds its meetings on a quarterly basis.

The signing of the memorandum of understanding was attended by the Deputy Minister of Economy for Economic Development and International Relations Rania Ahmed, the head of the regional office of the union in Damascus, Hassan Badenjaki, the secretary general of the union and a number of members of the union's board of directors from Arab countries.
