The euro fell to its lowest level in twenty years, in light of the uncertainty surrounding the prospects for the European economy after the announcement of the Russian Gazprom Group to stop gas supplies through the Nord Stream pipeline.
According to AFP, the euro fell 0.70 percent to $0.9884, its lowest level since December 2002.
And Gazprom announced last Friday that gas supplies via Nord Stream, which was scheduled to resume on Saturday after a maintenance operation, will be completely stopped until a turbine in the main pipeline to supply Europe is repaired.
Available preliminary indicators indicate that European stock exchanges will witness a sharp decline when they open today.
