Special correspondent in Saint-Avold (Moselle)
The Émile-Huchet plant is just one piece of the huge puzzle of the Seveso platform, which stretches over 600 hectares along the German border.
However, the factory located in Saint-Avold, 50 kilometers east of Metz (Moselle), is omnipresent in the landscape: impossible to miss its four cooling towers from the nearby A4 motorway.
At the beginning of October, the only chimney still operational should once again dissipate its plume of water vapor into the sky.
To prepare for its restart, decided by the State in order to limit the risk of power cuts this winter, heavy goods vehicles come to blacken the vast coal storage platform, at the rate of 2000 tonnes per day.
The ore is no longer imported from Russia, as was mostly the case before the war in Ukraine, but from Colombia, the United States and South Africa.
