Paid parking for two-wheelers in Paris: diving into the heart of an ubiquitous system

2022-09-21T07:32:33.811Z

INVESTIGATION – With her new very restrictive parking rules and an exorbitant price, the mayor of Paris is making life difficult for two-wheeler drivers, even for their business trips.

The Parisian owners of scooters or motorcycles therefore discovered this at the start of the school year: they must now pay for their parking.

And as they could expect with the town hall, the system is abominably complex… and the prices exorbitant.

To see more clearly with these new rules, we tried to get explanations from the town hall.

The press service replied:

“Impossible, they are all overwhelmed”

.

We should not be surprised: the explanations on the website are so incomplete that the call center service is overwhelmed with calls.

We therefore investigated by e-mail interposed;

then, repeatedly called the advisers at 39.75.

Finally, we made an appointment, incognito, at the parking service, rue du Château des rentiers, in the far south of the 13th arrondissement.

Indeed, the compulsory registration even for electric two-wheelers surprised us, as well as the limitation to a maximum of 6 hours of parking for an astronomical price: up to 37.50 euros for these 6 hours.

What we uncovered during our investigation is beyond comprehension.
