In the wake of the “Quatennens affair”, which is currently shaking the left, a movement has just been launched by activists under the banner “La Relève féministe”. With an eponymous hashtag, widely relayed.

They are deputies, municipal councillors, elected officials, but also journalists, artists, graphic

... » and calling for a « feminist succession ».

Through this post, written in unison by 558 signatories, including the spokesperson for the socialist party Gabrielle Siry-Houari or the journalist Elsa Wolinski, they notably demanded the resignation of deputy Adrien Quatennens, accused of domestic violence.

“Let things be clear: the aggressors and perpetrators of violence cannot represent our political struggles,” reads the missive.

These remarks follow the handrail filed by the wife of Adrien Quatennens, member of La France Insoumise (LFI).

On September 18, the protege of Jean-Luc Mélenchon had preceded the media by publishing a press release in which he admitted to having slapped his wife during an argument, "in a context of extreme tension and mutual aggression".

And the platform to continue: "If Adrien Quatennens is not at this stage the subject of a judicial conviction, although criminal proceedings have been initiated, his confession makes him politically responsible".

In the wake of this indictment, going up the long list of left-wing politicians implicated in cases of sexist and sexual assault (Éric Coquerel, Taha Bouhafs, or even Julien Bayou recently), those who have come together under the banner " La Relève féministe” seem to have launched a movement, which intends to shake up the high diplomatic spheres.

18,500 tweets

Wishing that omerta would end in political circles, these left-wing activists now want to leave "room (

in the parties, editor's note

) for feminists who fight daily against sexist and sexual violence".

A position relayed en masse on social networks where the hashtag #RelèveFéministe abounds on both sides.

Sometimes disseminated by these activists, sometimes by associations such as “We All”, or by anonymous people.

Only three days after the publication of the column in

Liberation

, the hashtag already accumulated more than 18,500 publications on Twitter.

“We, women on the left, no longer want to fight with aggressors.

No fault confessed half forgiven.

@FranceInsoumise, @EELV and @partisocialiste, you must exclude and stop investing in these men”, writes a user.

And another to apostrophize: “And Damien Abad, does he have his place in the hemicycle?

And Darmanin in the government?”, referring to the complaints lodged respectively against them for rape and attempted rape.

A “trivialization of domestic violence”

On Twitter, many activists also use the hashtag to directly challenge the leader of La France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon.

“As a rebellious young person, I will continue to fight, even against #Mélenchon so that women are really listened to.

His reaction had no reason to be, ”launches a young woman on the social network, working for the new political party New People's Ecological and Social Union (NUPES).

By "his reaction", she points to the left-wing leader's tweet, published on September 18, through which he publicly supported his counterpart Adrien Quatennens, condemning "police malice, media voyeurism and social networks", and adding “Adrien decides to take it all on himself.

I salute his dignity and his courage.

I tell him my confidence and my affection.

“Faced with the growing controversy, the former candidate for the 2022 presidential election immediately published a second message, in support of the victims: “Céline and Adrien are both my friends.

My affection for him does not mean that I am indifferent to Céline.

She didn't want to be quoted.

But I say: a slap is unacceptable in any case.

Adrian accepts it.

It's good."

A justification which, however, was not unanimous among the rebellious, and other political parties.

Arrested on Tuesday September 20 in the courtyard of Matignon, by

Franceinfo

, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne saw in this first “extremely shocking” reaction from Jean-Luc Mélenchon a “trivialization of intra-family violence”.

According to the We All collective, which also shared the forum of the “La Relève féministe” collective, nearly 93,000 women are victims of rape or attempted rape in France each year.

"Politics must lead by example," summarizes a user.
