High energy prices are a burden for many citizens.
In order to get this under control, the federal government wants to use a gas price brake.
At a joint press conference, Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Economics Minister Robert Habeck and Finance Minister Christian Lindner announced the agreement, which includes a package worth 200 billion euros.
A commission will be set up to implement it.
Scholz, who opened the press conference with a statement, also said that the gas levy had been tipped.
"It's no longer needed," he said.
