The tax notice has been online since September 30 for non-monthly taxpayers. Only 20% of households pay a

That's it, it's over… Well, almost.

Flagship measure of Emmanuel Macron's first five-year term, the gradual abolition of the housing tax on main residences, initiated in 2018, comes to an end in the fall.

The 80% of the least well-off taxpayers have not paid it since 2020.

The remaining 20% saw the rating drop by 30% in 2021, by 65% this year before its outright disappearance.

The opinions of non-monthly taxpayers also arrived in the special space of the impots.gouv.fr site from Friday 30 September.

The others will have to wait until the end of October.

Be careful, even if you no longer pay housing tax, you will still receive this notice with the sum of… 0 euros.

And the TV license fee in all this?

Because on this document, the contribution to public broadcasting – 138 euros in mainland France and 88 euros in Overseas – is also reduced to 0 euros for the 23 million households which were previously subject to it.

If you were paid monthly, the Directorate General of Public Finance must therefore reimburse you part of the amount.

If you already benefit from the abolition of the housing tax, the sums deducted beforehand will normally be returned to you in full on September 6 by bank transfer.

If you are still liable for housing tax in 2022, the deductions already made include the contribution to public broadcasting.

In case of overpayment, you will be refunded to your bank account at the beginning of October (for housing taxes due on November 15) or at the beginning of December (for those due on December 15).

If there is an amount to pay, you will be debited according to the updated schedule.

If no one will pay the audiovisual license fee, the housing tax will survive for some taxpayers.

The approximately 3.7 million owners of second homes will continue to pay it.

And the note can be salty because many municipalities have voted in recent years a surcharge that can go up to 60% of the legal ceiling.
