The Confederation of French Medical Unions (CSMF), the main representative organization of liberal practitioners, announced Thursday its support for the strike of medical interns scheduled for October 14.

By this day of mobilization, medical interns intend to mark their disagreement with the government project to extend the studies of future general practitioners by one year, and to direct them on this occasion towards medical deserts.

It is this last point that irritates the main union of French liberal doctors.

"

Sending the interns, alone, to medical deserts would be irresponsible both vis-à-vis the population concerned and our young colleagues

," said the CSMF in a press release.

Its president, Franck Devulder, says he supports “

the concern of students who feel trapped in this system

” and who “

refuse to be an adjustment variable

”.

This measure, included in the Social Security financing bill (PLFSS) for 2023, has set fire to the powder among future doctors.

The strike of October 14 will be doubled by a demonstration in front of the Ministry of Health in Paris.

The internal unions are demanding "

the withdrawal of the measure

", while the Minister François Braun, tried to calm things down by assuring that this "

year of consolidation

" will not include coercive measures.
