RBB employees outraged – bosses should forego pension payments

2022-11-04T18:18:20.122Z

The directors of the RBB are apparently entitled to adequate pensions, although the broadcaster has to save. The employees call it »morally difficult to bear«. They demand new contracts for the bosses.

Several directors of the RBB have probably had adequate pensions, a so-called pension, assured in their employment contracts.

According to the ARD magazine "Kontraste", the legal director of the broadcaster should receive 50 percent of her basic salary, i.e. around 106,000 euros a year.

With each additional year of service, the pension increases by one percentage point, up to a maximum of 60 percent.

Other directors are said to have similar contracts.

RBB employees are so outraged by this that they are now demanding that the members of management waive their pension.

In a statement of protest, the staff of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg called on the management to "renegotiate their employment contracts and unconditionally waive post-contractual pensions".

Only in this way can there be a credible new beginning.

More than 1,100 employees are said to have joined the declaration of protest at a “staff meeting from below”.

RBB wants to save

"The right to lifelong security as soon as the activity for the RBB is terminated is not only morally difficult to bear, but also means a considerable economic burden for the RBB," it continues.

The employees doubted that the contracts were permissible.

The RBB had recently announced austerity measures.

It is therefore unacceptable for RBB to spend significant sums on the one hand to secure its top management for life and on the other hand to continue to save on personnel, production and programs, said Sabine Jauer, Chairwoman of the Staff Council: “The workload is in many areas due to the pressure to save already extreme anyway.

These luxury privileges cannot be communicated either internally or externally.

I just find them naughty.«

In the affair surrounding the RBB, the Berlin public prosecutor's office is investigating several officials on suspicion of infidelity and acceptance of benefits.

The accused include the director Patricia Schlesinger, who was fired without notice, her husband and former SPIEGEL journalist Gerhard Spörl and the resigned station chief inspector Wolf-Dieter Wolf.

The affair started with media reports of allegations of nepotism.
