Minister of State in the British government, Oliver Dowden, revealed today that his country's government is forced to take important and difficult decisions regarding taxes and spending, as it seeks to bridge the budget deficit, but he refrained from revealing the possible measures to do so.
"It's true that we're making tough decisions, but I have to tell you that there will unfortunately be much more difficult decisions," Dowden said, adding that the government had to make tough decisions on taxes and spending.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt are working on plans to plug a deficit of at least 40 billion pounds ($45.50 billion), and their first budget plans are expected to be revealed on November 17.
The two British officials mentioned that the ongoing discussions do not exclude any option, including extending an exceptional tax on energy companies, and reducing the tax exemption on income from dividends.
