Not all ING France customers have yet received their funds

While 90% of holders of the Dutch bank hold less than 100 euros in their account, others sometimes have substantial sums.


On December 31, ING France will close its doors for good.

The vast majority of the Dutch bank's 500,000 customers have already recovered their assets: 315,000 of them have transferred 7 billion euros in savings and current accounts to Boursorama, the online subsidiary of Société Générale with which ING Francea formed a partnership.

The others opted for another establishment of their choice.

However, more than 3000 customers (6% to 7% of customers) have not yet signed up and closed their account.

“These are often customers in a situation of financial fragility who have no other bank account”

, points out Frédéric Niel, general manager of ING France.

Ninety percent of these customers have less than 100 euros in their account, but the others sometimes have substantial sums.

For several months, the Dutch bank has been trying to reach its holders by mail or telephone.

“We reimburse 400 customers per week

, explains Frédéric Niel.

On January 1, unclaimed sums will be transferred to a suspense account.

This account will remain open until the last customers collect their assets.

It will be housed within the small retail banking activity of ING France: the online bank will indeed continue to manage the life of real estate and consumer loans in progress, with a team of 10 to 30 people.

Funds that will not be claimed after ten years will be transferred to the Caisse des dépôts et consignations (CDC).
