, the SNCF could make a profit of 2.2 billion euros.

This figure has not been confirmed by the management of the railway group, concerned about discretion after its showdown with a collective of controllers.

In the first half, turnover had jumped to 20.3 billion euros, 14% more than before the pandemic.
Net profit reached 928 million euros.

To this record result should be added the amount of SNCF's share in the sale of Akiem, the locomotive rental subsidiary, owned equally with DWS, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bank.
The amount of the sale of this subsidiary to the Caisse de depot et placement du Québec (CDPQ), finalized in early December, would vary between 2.5 and 3 billion euros.
The SNCF and the Ministry of Transport assure that it is not a question of “
profits
”, explaining that the result will be “
fully reinvested
” in the railway and in particular in the network.
Last summer, Jean-Pierre Farandou, CEO of the SNCF group, judged that the amounts allocated to rail infrastructure remained insufficient compared to those of our neighbours.
He estimated at a "
hundred billion euros
" the investments to be made to double the share of the train in France and achieve carbon neutrality in 2050. In the shorter term, this windfall will help the SNCF to pay its electricity bill. .
This doubled in 2022, rising to 600 million euros.
The 2023 budget provides for an envelope of 1.6 billion euros.
