The General Organization for Seed Multiplication announced the import of quantities of potato seeds that farmers subscribed for for the current season, to be distributed to farmers in various governorates, provided that the entire imported quantities will arrive in the coming days.
In a statement to SANA, Director of the General Corporation for Seed Multiplication, Eng. Wael Al-Taweel, explained that 2057 tons of potato seeds were imported for the current season of (Sponta, Agria, Fabula, Farida, Arizona, Everest and Synergy).
Al-Taweel indicated that the governorates’ share of these quantities is 203 tons to Aleppo, 448 tons to Hama, 301 tons to Homs, 193 tons to Damascus, 500 tons to Daraa, 17 tons to As-Suwayda, 95 tons to Lattakia, and 300 tons to Tartous.
And Al-Taweel indicated that the quantities of imported seeds began to arrive in the country in the middle of last month, and immediately sales began to the farmers who subscribed to them at encouraging prices, as the quantities sold to date amounted to about 688 tons, and it is expected that the full quantities of seeds will arrive during the next few days, and sales will continue until the end The date of the agricultural season.
Al-Taweel pointed out that the Corporation has about 173 tons of locally produced potato seeds within the national project for the production of potato seeds, indicating that the entire amount was subscribed to by farmers, and the process of selling and delivering the seeds to them began.
