A survey conducted by the Histadrut brings up troubling findings regarding the economic situation of Israeli citizens: it turns out that the cost of living weighs on us so that most of us are looking for additional income, only a minority have savings

Stressed by the economic situation: almost 70% report that they experienced an increase in mental stress as a result of the economic situation (Photo: ShutterStock)

The Histadrut, through the Geocartography Institute, conducted a comprehensive survey among a representative sample of the Israeli population and examined our buying habits, changes in consumption habits due to the economic situation and even our mood.

The results, how to say - a little dismal.

Most of those surveyed report feelings of stress, tension or anxiety following the increase in the cost of living, most of them support the consumer struggle (that is, preventing the purchase of a brand because its price has increased), but do not take an active part in demonstrations and other protests, most of us are looking for supplementary income in the form of additional work as an employee or self-employed - And there are also really worrying figures, such as the percentage of those who need to supplement their income, avoid medical treatment and more.

What do the survey respondents say about the cost of living?

• 28% of the participants in the survey (about every third person) answered that at least once they gave up medical treatment.

• 69% of the participants in the survey answered that following the cost of living there was an increase in the mental stress they experience.

• 33% of the participants (every third person) answered that they started receiving financial support from relatives/friends/aid associations/the Ministry of Welfare/municipality.

• 61% of the participants in the survey answered that they started working or were looking for another job at the same time as their regular job.

• 60% of the participants replied that they give up buying products and services more than before

• 25% of the survey participants replied that they are unable to save their monthly salary.

• 36% of the survey participants answered that they have no savings that could be used for unexpected expenses.

The survey also examined our consumption habits and found that targeted advertising has a greater influence than "network influencers" on our online buying habits.

What do we spend on the network?

The most on fashion (56%), food and fast food (40.9%), electrical products (36.3%) and personal care products (32.15).

And there is another statistic, which perhaps indicates the gap between the way we perceive our financial situation and what we are willing to do to improve it, other than through additional income: 29.1% of us admit that they do not plan monthly expenses in advance at all.
