YPF joined the 4% rise in gasoline in CABA, but in the interior some brands do it up to almost 10%

2023-01-17T16:58:43.584Z

There will be another rise of 4% in February and one of 3.8% in March. Then, the update for the rest of the year will be negotiated.

The country's main oil company

YPF joined the 4% increase

in fuels from CABA, rose with the one that Shell made a point a day before and then Axion also joined.

However,

inside, some brands

reached adjustments of up to more than 9%

.

The cost of fuels is mainly made up of the evolution of the international price of oil, the local price of biofuels, the exchange rate and the tax component.

At the end of November, the Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, announced an

agreement with the oil companies so that fuels participate in the Fair Prices program

with

monthly increases of up to 4% from December to March

of this year.

The increase agreed for January, the companies accepted that

the 4% increase

be applied as of January 15, in order to avoid a greater inflationary impact

at the start of the year.

Despite the agreed percentage, the reality is that the increase is not even throughout the country, there is a great dispersion of prices in the different cities of Argentina.

Thus, the lowest values, as is logical, are registered in the south of the country, where there are fewer taxes.

And the highest, on the other hand, occur in the north.

"We are seeing that in the Argentine Northeast the fuel price agreements are not being fulfilled, and it is logical,

" Jeremías Morlandi, Director of Public Policies of the Center for Economic Studies Argentina XXI (CEEAXXI) explained to Clarín.

In that sense, he added: "The international price, the devaluation, the inflation in logistics costs and the fuel taxes themselves force companies to raise gasoline."

The specialist explained that in the case of the interior, "the logistical cost is crucial. Transporting fuel to Buenos Aires is not the same as transporting it to Misiones."

Such is the case, that in provinces such as Formosa, Corrientes, Chaco or Misiones,

the adjustment reached a 9% increase

.

"Argentina has a lot of potential in terms of energy, but national production, although it is at high levels, still does not cover the demand. That quota that it lacks to unleash its potential, both in Vaca Muerta and in future deposits, is blocked by internal difficulties ranging from tax pressure to high regulations," explained Morlandi.
