There were days when Microsoft and Amazon were considered untouchable.
Both technology giants flourished and grew, but the crisis of 2022 caught them too.
After it was reported on Tuesday that Microsoft is expected to lay off about 10 thousand workers in 2023, CEO Satya Nadella confirmed today (Wednesday) that the details are correct. "We are expected to lay off the workers by the end of the third quarter of the year," he said, "we will have to our expenses with the financial cycle and adapt ourselves to the customer's demand.
The number of those laid off is approximately 5 percent of the company's workforce." Microsoft has approximately 220,000 employees worldwide.
Meanwhile, Amazon has already begun implementing a layoff plan for approximately 18,000 employees, which was planned in recent months. The company began issuing summonses for a hearing by email, Mainly in the USA, Canada and Costa Rica.
In China, the invitations will be sent only after the Chinese New Year celebrations.
Amazon of course sugar coated the move and said that it "will allow us to make the products available to our customers at cheap prices".
However, this is only about one percent of the employees, since the company has about 350,000 people around the globe.
