The decline continues and accelerates.
The number of job seekers registered in category A (i.e. without activity) fell by 3.8% this quarter, with 112,100 fewer unemployed bringing the number of unemployed to 2.834 million, according to figures from the Ministry of Labor published this Wednesday.
Including reduced activity (categories B and C), the number of jobseekers in France (excluding Mayotte) only decreased by 0.8% (-39,600) and stood at 5,394,200 for this fourth quarter, according to the statistics department of the ministry.
Over one year, the fall in category A is 9.4%.
For categories A, B and C, it is 5.1%.
For categories B, C and D
The number of people engaged in short-term reduced activity (category B) increased by 5.2% compared to the previous quarter and over the same period that of people in long-term reduced activity (category C) increased by 2.3%.
In total, the number of job seekers in categories A, B, C fell by 0.8% over this quarter (39,600) and by 5.2% over one year.
In the fourth quarter, 706,900 people registered with Pôle Emploi were not required to look for a job.
They are either not immediately available and unemployed (category D, for example: training, job security contract, illness), or have a job (category E, for example: business creation, subsidized contract).
Over this quarter, the number of registrants in category D decreased by 5.2% and that of registrants in category E by 1.2%.
The update procedure was modified in 2022
In January 2022, the procedure for updating jobseekers at the end of the month was improved for young people under the age of 26.
This change was extended to young people under 30 in February 2022. This change has a permanent downward impact on the number of job seekers in category A, and a permanent increase in categories B and C linked to the best reporting of reduced activity hours and a slight uptick in roster exits as the region transitioned to the renovated refresh.
In total, the switch to the new update form would lead to a cumulative reduction of 105,000 jobseekers in category A between January and November 2022, increasing the number of jobseekers in categories B and C by 90,000 and the outputs of 15,000.
