Pakistani Oil Minister Mossadegh Malik announced that his country will start buying oil from Russia next April.
Malik said in a statement today, reported by Sputnik agency: "In March, all trade terms of the agreement with Russia will be completed, and then in April, low-cost crude oil will begin to reach Pakistan, and the sale process will be in a currency other than the dollar."
He pointed out that at the present time Russian companies do not have gas to export to Pakistan, but for the upcoming winter season, under another agreement, Pakistan will be able to purchase immediate LNG shipments from two companies identified by the Russian government.
Under an agreement with Russia, Pakistan has also started working on a comprehensive energy security plan to be implemented by the end of this year, which includes pipeline gas and other petroleum products.
